If you’re going through hell, keep going.

that quote from Winston Churchill is quite chilling but meaningful personal growth rarely occurs without anguish, crisis and loss. Sometimes in business the only way forward is deeper into crisis. How often are insolvency experts called into a company in distress and it takes teams of forensic accountants weeks to work out the debts. How could you let a business get into that catastrophic situation ?

I know all about stress, working huge hours 7 days a week for months on end. In the early 1980’s we worked for years building our accountancy business …..thank goodness for a supportive family, good health, some wonderful employees and more work than we could properly handle.

But imagine a different product, different economic times, huge fixed costs, a few dominant clients, a marriage breakdown, illness, working capital shortages and worst of all a very poor accounting system.

What levers do you pull ?

Do you follow Churchill’s advice ?

I hope not.

A true leader knows when to call for help and the earlier you seek assistance the better the fiscal outcome will be.

Do not try to ‘keep going’ until you know exactly where you are in terms of the financial status of the business and that critical assessment needs an experienced accountant to help you.
